PROGRESS REPORT

2nd Quarter - 2003

Introduction

The initatives described below follow the directives laid out in the 2003 WCA plan which can be viewed on the WCA website under the Forum link, click on "meeting minutes." The primary goal of the current board is to improve the quality of racing in Wisconsin. Progress on the initiatives laid out in the 2003 plan are noted below.

January 2003

  • Held WCA open member meeting on January 11 at Meghaan's restaurant in Lake Mills. 13 clubs were represented and a draft of the 2003 WCA schedule was developed
  • Began WCA website re-design process after bids were solicited and a vendor secured
  • Began feasibility work of a liaison with USAC
  • Board member recruitment
  • Bids reqested from finish line operator

February

  • WCA officer elections held; 2003 board members selected and three "at-large" positions added
  • Promoters meeting scheduled
  • Discussions with USAC, M. Hanley and WCA board continue on liaison with USAC, a program that would rebate a portion of USCF licenses back to WCA in exchange for overseeing certain duties such as license upgrades, race permits, racing guidelines and officials training and development
  • New web site design rolled out
  • Promoter packet work begun

March

  • USAC Contract signed with WCA
  • Heidi Mingesz selected as USAC liaison
  • Promoters meeting held March 22 in Lake Mills
  • First website ad tested; analysis of hits and response from riders will determine future ad policy and pricing
  • 2003 WCA Racing Guidelines revised and published on website

2nd Quarter 2003

April

  • WCA Code of Ethics posted on website; encourages riders to understand how they represent our sport and how our sport runs (by volunteer)
  • Wisconsin Cup Points updated within 3 days of each event and posted on website
  • Jerseys for 2002 State Champions distributed
  • Jerseys for 2003 State Championship events ordered
  • 12 Things Riders Should Know (if they don't read their rule book) posted on website

May

  • Web site ad partnerships in progress; Superweek ad trade made
  • Officials clinic planning underway: H. Mingesz to coordinate
  • Develop meeting agenda for 2004 planning. Topics on the table include, but are not limited to: Permanent numbers, gaining charity status, officials incentive program, rider development, non-WCA club outreach, race/scoring guidelines review, masters age class review, 2004 program and fund raising goals.
  • Norba liaison with USAC considered

June

  • Planning for summer board meeting
  • Board member input for future planning discussion
  • Organize list of non-WCA clubs for WCA website; discuss outreach to those clubs
  • New columns for website started: "Wisconsin Riders in Europe" and "Ride Scout"
  • Jerseys ordered for state championship events
  • Norba liaison with USCF is completed
