Tour L’Abiditi Update

By Lowell Kellogg

July 20, 2004

It has taken me awhile to figure out how to log on using a French version of the Microsoft operating system. We all arrived OK. Good weather so far but cold, wet weather (of which is normal) is on its way. Today was the first real stage. It was the team time trial and we finished 12th. USA National Team won and Hot Tubes was second. We only dropped one rider. Tonight is stage 2 which will be an evening Criterium. Tomorrow is the first road race stage. Everyone is in good spirits. Take care, Lowell

Riders

Jason Carr is riding his first year L'Abitibi but most senior ISCorp Cycling Team member. Jason is our 2004 Wisconsin Criterium State Champion.

Todd Elenz was a member of the 2003 ISCorp L'Abitibi Cycling Team and won the junior event at this year's Snake Alley Criterium for ISCorp. Todd is a five time Michigan State Champion.

Jared Faciszewski is one of the newest members of the ISCorp Cycling Team. Jared won the junior event at this year's Wheels on Willy Criterium and is currently leading the WCA WI Cup for juniors 17-18.

Tom Hanley was a member of the 2003 Salsa Midwest L'Abitibi Cycling Team. Tom is the 2004 Ohio Time Trial State Champion.

Cassel Lessinger is new this year on the ISCorp Cycling Team. Cassel is a multiple Illinois State Champion for the Road Race and Criterium. Cassel won the junior event at the 2003 Arlington International Criterium. Cassel was a member of the 2003 Salsa Midwest L'Abitibi Cycling Team.

Michael "Utah" Schmidt was the highest placed rider on the 2003 Salsa Midwest L'Abitibi Cycling Team. Michael is commonly known as "Utah" by his teammates and he is the Utah Criterium State Champion. Michael was the top rider in the last two years at the USAC Regional Junior Development Camp held in LaCrosse, WI.

I am extremely grateful to Larry Martin the USAC Regional Junior Development Camp manager and the organizer of the 2003 Salsa Midwest L'Abitibi Team of which he invited me to go along to gain coaching experience. The ISCorp L'Abitibi Cycling Team this year is composed of four L'Abitibi veterans, one from ISCorp and the other three from Salsa Midwest. Thanks to Larry's hard work in running USAC camps and organizing teams for L'Abitibi, I feel in debt to Larry for the success of this year's ISCorp L'Abitibi Cycling Team.

Personnel Support Staff

Joe Cieszynski is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. I've known Joe for several years as a former racer and athletic trainer at Menomonee Falls High School. Joe will be starting a new position this fall as the athletic trainer at Brookfield Central High School.

Petar Tomich is an expert level USAC licensed coach that I met earlier this year at the annual WCA meeting in Lake Mills and again in St. Louis during an USAC Coaching Power Training weekend seminar. Petar is also the promoter of the WCA Fox Valley Criterium.

Lowell Kellogg is an expert level USAC licensed coach. Lowell won the first stage of the Tour de L'Abitibi in 1983 and wore the leaders jersey until a crash dropped him out of contention in the overall GC. However, he did go on to finish the Tour. Twenty years later, Lowell returned to the Tour as a Coach of the Salsa Midwest Cycling Team. This year will be Lowell's third L'Abitibi experience.

I am very proud to present to everyone this year's ISCorp L'Abitibi Cycling Team. I encourage everyone to keep posted during the tour by checking the official tour website www.tourabitibi.qc.ca. The Tour begins July 19 and ends July 25.

Many thanks to our title sponsor ISCorp's Mike Weber, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, and to all the members of Nova Cycle Sport, Inc. for supporting young riders.

Lowell Kellogg, ISCorp Junior/Espoir Cycling Team Coach
