With over 520 racers participating on April 4th and April 18th, the 2004 editions of the Great Dane Velo Club Spring Crits were the most successful ever. With unseasonably warm (and windy) weather on the 18th, large numbers of Wisconsin racers turned out for record-setting fields. The Category 4/5 field was nearly 100 riders itself. Even some National Champions came out to race in the 80-degree temperatures.

Sunday April 18th set a single day participant record for the GDVC Criteriums of 298 racers, surpassing the previous record of 228 racers, set two weeks prior! All the races went off smoothly thanks to the hard work of the race officials Craig Haywood, Heidi Mingesz, and Lowell Kellogg. With all of the racers and the large fields, they really had their work cut out for them, especially with the monstrous Cat 4/5 field!
