First Great Dane Velo Club Criterium a Success

The Great Dane Velo Club held the first of two bicycle races this past weekend on the west side of Madison, Wisconsin at the University of Wisconsin Research Park. The races went off with great success with participants in all available categories from juniors up through the professional categories. Nearly 230 racers participated with some fields approaching 70 riders.

The Club received many positive comments regarding the organization of the races and participants expressed thanks to the club and its sponsors.

Though a little cool, the sun was shining as the juniors and category 4 women took to the circuit at 9am on Sunday morning. Racing proceeded throughout the day culminating with the Pro and Category 1/2 men at 2pm and the women's open race at 3pm.

Being the first race of the year sanctioned by the Wisconsin Cycling Association, rider enthusiasm was high and the racing was exciting. The Great Dane Velo Club riders showed themselves well despite a few cobwebs from the long off-season! The team showed it had done its off-season homework and the riders feel good and look to build their results as the season progresses.

The Great Dane Velo Club will host the second of its two Wisconsin Cycling Association races on Sunday, April 18th. The races will again take place at the University of Wisconsin Research Park.
