Sixteen riders assembled to contest the annual Bill Schulte Junior Trophy Race. Pre-race favorites David Engwis - SpeedZone and Alex Weisler - Nova IS Corp. appeared to be on track to dominate this 25 lap Points Race after convincingly taking the top spots in the opening sprints. Unfortunately, Weisler and Engwis crossed wheels between sprints and the ill-placed Engwis hit the pavement. Out of respect for Engwis’ skill the field sat up awaiting his reintegration. Once onboard it became obvious that the fallen rider was more injured than even he first believed. Once free to race, Weisler was able to lap the field and secure a well-deserved win.

The Bill Schulte Junior Trophy Race has long been a “coronation” of the tracks up-and-coming stars. In recent years, Aaron Kacala and David Young were each able to secure three straight victories before becoming dominant contestants in the Senior ranks. Weisler began to reveal his potential taking a strong second place behind Washington Park Velodrome’s most accomplished racer (Rob Springer - Hayes Brake) in the Elite 10 mile race. Springer, Weisler and Nick Holbus - Beans & Barley secured the top podium spots by lapping the field in this 50 lap event.
